VPN Client Connection Instructions

This brief guide covers how to connect to the CMS datacenter using the VPN client software on Microsoft Windows XP.  This guide assumes that the client software has already been installed.

 

Notes: 

 

  1. While connected to the VPN you should also be able to continue to access campus resources.
  2. Connections are set to time out after 2 hours if no activity occurs between your workstation and the datacenter.
  3. There is a problem on some computers that causes the connection to appear active (yellow clock in system tray appears as  instead of .  If this happens you simply need to double-click the icon in the system tray and disconnect/connect in order to reestablish your connection.

 

 

Under the Start Menu you should have a Cisco Systems VPN Client folder.  Click on the VPN Client icon.

 

 

The VPN Client window will appear.  Click the Connect icon. 

 

Note: your Connection Entry may be labeled freuser or something similar, just make sure the entry you have is highlighted before clicking on Connect.

 

You will now be prompted for your datacenter username and password.

 

After entering your correct username and password, the following window will appear, click Continue.

The VPN Client window will be minimized and you will see a yellow lock icon in the system tray.

 

To disconnect from the VPN Client, double-click the yellow lock in the system tray and then click the Disconnect icon.
